In recent news, more celebrities and athletes are investing their time, voice, and resources into food and agriculture. From professional athletes supporting regenerative farming to entertainers launching plant-based food companies, there is a clear shift: agriculture is no longer viewed solely as a rural or background industry. It is becoming a mainstream movement with cultural influence.
Why are celebrities entering the ag space?
- Food security as a global concern: With rising concerns around supply chains, nutrition, and access to healthy food, high-profile figures are using their platforms to raise awareness and invest in solutions.
- Personal branding meets purpose: Today’s athletes and entertainers want to be remembered not just for their careers, but for their legacy of impact. Agriculture offers a pathway to connect their personal brands with sustainability, equity, and community.
- Economic and social opportunity: The ag sector offers diverse investment avenues: land, technology, sustainability, nutrition, and innovation, making it attractive for high-net-worth individuals who want to merge profit with purpose.
Why this matters now
While it is exciting to see agriculture gaining attention at the celebrity level, the real opportunity lies in mobilizing the now/next generation. If athletes and artists can see agriculture as central to the future, then so can students, educators, and young professionals.
- Food security is everyone’s business: Climate change, population growth, and shifting diets demand more resilient and innovative food systems.
- The next workforce is watching: Young people look up to celebrities and athletes as role models. Their involvement sends a clear signal that agriculture is not old-fashioned, it’s future-focused.
- Representation and relevance: When young people see their cultural icons engaged in ag, it makes the industry more inclusive, relatable, and aspirational.
Educating and engaging the next generation
For Together We Grow members and partners, this moment is a call to action. To meet future workforce demands, we must:
- Integrate ag education early: Collaborate with schools and community programs to connect agriculture to science, technology, entrepreneurship, and social justice.
- Leverage celebrity influence: Partner with athletes, artists, and cultural figures to amplify the message that food and ag careers are innovative and impactful.
- Create entry points for youth: Expand internships, mentorships, and digital platforms where students can see real career pathways in agriculture.
Closing thought
As celebrities and athletes step into agriculture, they shine a spotlight on an industry that sustains us all. But true, lasting impact comes when the next generation is not only aware of agriculture – but engaged, educated, and inspired to lead it.
